after going through whole of the messages you kno i found that we all are going through the same problem and i think the current system of law is the whole sole responsible for that.
mobile phone stealing is the biggest problem we al r pasing on and due to this the terrorist activities are also expanding a lot and then the govt use to surprise how terrorist are performing their activities while the govt norms are itself responsible
so we al should be careful now

Me too. Just decided to write here because this site seems to get many hits and be of some help to others, if at all.

Lost my mobile at domestic airport check-in desk of jetair or the hand baggage scanning area between 5 am and 7 am. I realized the loss much later, after arriving at my destination. With the amount of hype around "Don't touch unattended bags etc." it may not have been a co-traveler but you never know. Someone mentioned that if it returns to the authorities and is not collected after a few days (no idea how many), these get auctioned!

What I did: 1) Spoke to Airtel who said "Please bring a request in company letter head" if you wish to get a duplicate SIM to which all balances if any would be transferred. I had to speak to my office to get this done - some Rs. 50 or so for the replacement.
2) Logged a police complaint and got FIR No. They were very helpful.

My request to the Authorities:
1) I think the police database in the entire country should be integrated, the way the customs and immigration data is. I understand this is not the case now!
2) All mobile service providers should access this barred list when providing connection. This would be similar to the global spam database block list.

My conclusion:
1) Lost phones may be used for gray market spares
2) May be sold in oversea markets
3) Need to spend all that time in building up the personal phone number, address and messages database all over again!
4) Replacing the sim will help you in keeping the number for banking and other online services.
5) Loss may be lower using prepaid and if the balance is low.
6) One may be just "lucky" to get it back.

Good, This Blog started with useful information. But all the blog visitors are only victims looking for support/help. Infact , I am also one of these Victims, Once I lost my N72, and went to findout the thief.
The ironic fact is that.., Even if the Cellular company has the facility to trace the IMEI Number, They wont do it for all the people who lost their phone.
And the funniest fact is, Even if you fight with the service provider to trace your phone, they will ask for FIR copy, which is not at all possible in India.
Police will not accept your FIR Cases
Their ushual diolouge is " No No..We dont accept FIR for Mobile phone cases. Do you think we are sitting free whole day ?? There are 100 of mobile thefts everyday in the city "
and what they say is true.
The IMEI Number shared database lies with all Service provider. But they wont help you if you dont have FIR. and Police will not give you FIR. (If you are lucky, and if the phone is very costly, you can have a special consideration)
There may me somany devolopers who read these blogs..and why not we all think about developing a software for our phones to track it..? Is there any techies who can develop a solution which will be a full proof mobile tracing solution ??
It is proven that the Service provider is not going to help you.
It is also proven that the police is also not going to help you.
So, Start building the solution for tracing it.
